The world is changing. Under the Paris Agreement and the global push toward Net Zero 2050, businesses of every size are being called to account for their carbon footprint. Governments, investors, and supply chain partners are increasingly demanding transparency on environmental impact.
In Singapore, the shift is already underway. The Singapore Green Plan 2030 sets ambitious targets for a sustainable future — and businesses are expected to play their part.
But knowing that you need to report is very different from knowing how.
For most small businesses, carbon reporting feels impossible.
If you have fewer than 30 employees, chances are you don’t have a dedicated sustainability team. Carbon reporting means wading through dense frameworks, collecting data from across your operations, and producing documents that meet international standards — all while running your day-to-day business.
The reality for most SMEs today:
The result? Many small businesses simply don’t report at all — not because they don’t care, but because the process is overwhelming.
There had to be a better way.
CarbonX is a step-by-step carbon reporting platform built specifically for small businesses.
We’ve taken the complexity out of SASB-aligned carbon reporting and turned it into a guided, intuitive workflow — so you can go from zero to a complete, compliant report without needing a sustainability expert on your team.
No jargon. No guesswork. Just a clear path from your business data to a professional carbon report.
| Time to complete a report | Weeks of back-and-forth |
| Expertise needed | Sustainability consultant required |
| Process | Manual spreadsheets, scattered data |
| Output | Inconsistent, hard to verify |
| Cost | High consultant fees |
CarbonX provides businesses with a comprehensive and user-friendly platform for accurately reporting their carbon emissions. It supports Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using pre-established product templates, a dynamic visual network graph for tracking emissions among products and processes, and structured tracking of Scope 1, 2, and upstream Scope 3 that aligns with SASB reporting standards for trustworthy and industry-relevant disclosures. Users can create automated expert carbon reports, get ready for new regulations with Digital Product Passport (DPP) functionalities, and utilize Sprout AI, a built-in assistant that aids in analysis and reporting.
By doing so, CarbonX also promotes important UN Sustainable Development Goals. For SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, it fosters innovation in sustainable practices by providing companies with cutting-edge digital tools and standardized data systems that enhance industrial efficiency and transparency. For SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, it allows organizations to monitor emissions throughout the entire product life cycle, recognize inefficiencies, and make more sustainable production choices, fostering accountability and resource efficiency. For SDG 13: Climate Action, CarbonX enables organizations to effectively assess, control, and lower emissions, aiding in regulatory adherence and promoting proactive strategies for climate mitigation. Collectively, these efforts strengthen CarbonX’s dedication to fostering quantifiable, data-informed sustainability advancements.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our Capstone Mentor, Prof. Cai Yu Tong, for his guidance and constructive feedback throughout the development of the CarbonX platform. His advice was instrumental in refining the scope of the prototype.
We also extend our sincere thanks to our Entrepreneurship Mentor, Mr. James Fu, for his expertise in project management and business strategy. His insights on refining our product’s value proposition—specifically in identifying user motivations—and his strategic advice on how to effectively reach out to potential clients were invaluable to our project’s direction.
We are also grateful to our CWR Mentor, Dr. Susan Wong, for her guidance on professional communication and presentation delivery. Her feedback helped us articulate our solution more effectively, and her practical tips on adopting the right tone for partner outreach significantly improved our external correspondence.
At Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), we believe that the power of design roots from the understanding of human experiences and needs, to create for innovation that enhances and transforms the way we live. This is why we develop a multi-disciplinary curriculum delivered v ia a hands-on, collaborative learning pedagogy and environment that concludes in a Capstone project.
The Capstone project is a collaboration between companies and senior-year students. Students of different majors come together to work in teams and contribute their technology and design expertise to solve real-world challenges faced by companies. The Capstone project will culminate with a design showcase, unveiling the innovative solutions from the graduating cohort.
The Capstone Design Showcase is held annually to celebrate the success of our graduating students and their enthralling multi-disciplinary projects they have developed.
