Why NutriFusion?

In high-performance sports, the bridge between raw data and athletic excellence is often hindered by fragmented systems and manual overhead. Nutrition scientists at the High Performance Sports Institute (HPSI) face daily challenges navigating disparate records, repetitive data entry, and time-consuming administrative processes.

NutriFusion bridges this gap by providing a unified digital infrastructure specifically designed for the rigors of elite athlete management. By leveraging Agentic AI, OCR technology, and vector-based search, the platform consolidates disparate records into a definitive Single Source of Truth (SSoT).

How Does NutriFusion Work?

NutriFusion is a digital ecosystem engineered to revolutionise elite sports nutrition by synthesising fragmented manual processes into a unified platform.

High-Clarity Visual Dashboard

NutriFusion utilises a high-clarity visual hierarchy to present comprehensive metrics at a glance. The interface employs a structured grid system to handle the complexities of elite athlete management, turning intensive consultation workflows into a streamlined digital experience. This design ensures that accuracy and data continuity remain the standard for every athlete record within the system.

Athlete Management System

Unified Athlete Profiles

NutriFusion synthesises comprehensive athlete profiles and medical histories into a unified digital environment, effectively eliminating the friction of navigating fragmented files. By centralising the consultation workflow, the platform provides sports scientists with a cohesive framework to monitor performance metrics within a single, integrated interface. This consolidation significantly reduces administrative overhead.

Supplement Support System
03

Smart Supplement Support

Through the integration of advanced OCR technology for instantaneous safety verification and vectorisation similarity search for precision-matched supplement substitutes, the platform automates the most intensive administrative bottlenecks. The system can instantly verify supplement safety and find alternatives when needed.

AI-Powered Data Engine Architecture
04

AI-Powered Data Engine

An AI-powered web-scraping engine maintains a dynamic inventory by autonomously extracting supplement data from verified external sources. This ensures the database stays current without manual intervention, giving nutritionists access to the latest supplement information and market availability at all times.

Success Matrix

100% Traceability

Uncompromising Security and Accountability

Mandatory 2FA and rigorous audit logging ensure every data entry and modification is securely tracked. The system meets the highest standards of operational compliance.

85% User Acceptance

Driven by Real-World Effectiveness

Validated through targeted user testing with HPSI nutritionists, the platform achieved an 85% acceptance rate. Advanced features empower nutritionists to draw deeper insights and make better decisions for their athletes.

50% Faster

Drastically Reducing Administrative Load

By targeting key workflow bottlenecks and streamlining the user experience, core tasks are completed up to 50% faster. This directly reduces the daily administrative burden on nutrition scientists.

Conceptualisation

Understanding the Problem Space

We began by studying existing workflows at HPSI, identifying key challenges such as repetitive data entry, fragmented records, and time-consuming processes. Through extensive stakeholder interviews and workflow observation, we mapped out the pain points that nutritionists face daily.

These insights shaped a clear objective: Create an integrated system that centralises data and streamlines decision-making while maintaining the flexibility required for elite sports nutrition management.

System Architecture Design

Rather than designing isolated screens, we structured the entire platform around core workflows. This holistic approach ensured that every feature serves a specific purpose in the nutritionist's daily routine:

  • Dashboard for quick insights and daily overview of athlete consultations
  • Athlete Management System for comprehensive consultation tracking and history
  • Supplement Support System for intelligent recommendations and safety verification

We also implemented Centralised data architecture for seamless data flow and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for secure, role-specific access across different user types.

User & Stakeholder Mapping

To ensure the system addressed real-world needs, we developed detailed user personas representing nutrition scientists, as well as third-party stakeholders impacted by the platform. This comprehensive mapping allowed us to:

  • Understand different user goals, behaviours, and pain points across roles
  • Identify how data flows across multiple roles and departments
  • Anticipate interactions between primary users and supporting systems
  • Design for both common workflows and edge cases

By mapping these perspectives, we ensured the platform was designed not just for a single user, but as a connected ecosystem supporting all stakeholders in the athlete nutrition pipeline.

Iterations & Validation

Through targeted user testing with HPSI nutritionists, we validated the system's effectiveness across multiple iteration cycles. Each round of testing revealed new opportunities for improvement, which we systematically addressed.

The result was an 85% acceptance rate among test users. By introducing custom analysis permutations and advanced features not accommodated in previous workflows, the platform directly empowers nutritionists to draw deeper insights and make data-driven decisions for their athletes with confidence.

Acknowledgements

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Sun Zhu and Dr. Susan Wong, our SUTD mentors, for their continuous guidance, support, and expertise throughout the duration of this capstone project.

We also extend our appreciation to our industry partners at the High Performance Sports Institute (HPSI) — Francis (Sport Technologist), Joanna (Nutritionist), and Sonia (Nutritionist) — for generously sharing their time, insights, and domain knowledge, which were invaluable in shaping the direction and development of our work.

Special thanks to the HPSI nutritionists who actively participated in our user testing sessions. Your practical feedback and willingness to engage with the system were instrumental in refining NutriFusion to meet the real-world operational needs of your clinic.

Finally, we would like to thank all capstone faculty and administrative staff who supported and facilitated the project process, ensuring that our capstone journey progressed smoothly.
