A quick-deploy chemical shelter.

Design Constraints

Manual deployment of the shelter must be activated by only a single action. Structure must be foolproof, designed not only to perform its intended functions reliably but also actively prevent misuse or unintended human actions. While this may appear straightforward in theory, it is significantly more complex in theory.

Simple proprietary solutions to complex problems.

Provides a safe, decontaminated and overpressure space within 1.5 minutes of deployment.

Reliable fabric deployment and maintaining fabric’s form is essential for forming a structurally sound, over pressurized space.

During initial testing, fabric base openings were inconsistent due to folding issues.

To resolve this, a chain-linked deployment mechanism inspired by nunchakus was integrated into the system.

Off-the-shelf quick release mechanisms are either too expensive or does not meet our requirements

Thus, we made our own 3D printed Quick Release Mechanism.
