Introducing Proj S47 – Wealthcx One-Stop Financial Mobile App

Investment apps challenge traditional brokerages due to technological enhancements, lower fees, and the post-COVID economic recovery boosting user numbers. However, not all investors are financially literate, and many apps prioritize profit over educating users for better financial decisions (Natanson, 2023; Rosenberg et al., 2023).

Problem Statement

Retail investors use different platforms to get financial information, like real-time data, news, and insights.

How can we give retail investors all the information they need in an easy-to-understand way, by implementing the state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence means, so they can confidently make smart investment choices?

User Analysis

Based on our survey and prior research described below, we have defined our target users. Our target users are retail investors, individual investors who invest their own money through online brokers.

We also asked our users about the functions they want to have in our application, the most chosen answers are the history view of data, the forum for users to discuss, the notification messages, the AI chatbot helper and the download of history data.

Solution

Based on the identified problem and survey results, our solution is designing our own financial application combined with LLM model. To ensure accessibility for financial beginners, our app must feature a simple and intuitive user interface, coupled with clear user guidance.

 

 

Three core components

Our system is designed with three core components:

  1. Android App: Your gateway to our services. It’s a user-friendly frontend interface that offers you the Home Page for a dashboard view, a History Page to keep track of your activities, a secure Login/Register system for account management, and an intelligent Chatbot for your inquiries.
  2. WealthCX Server: The powerhouse behind the scenes. Acting as our robust backend, it handles all requests through the API Controller, ensuring efficient processing of your operations and delivering responses promptly.
  3. AI & Data Integration: At the forefront of our services, we employ a state-of-the-art Large Language Model and aggregate data from diverse third-party sources to inform and enrich your interactions.

When you interact with our app, every operation is meticulously directed by our API Controller. It intelligently navigates the backend, fetching the required data in response to your queries.

APP functions

Explore markets effortlessly with our app’s Home Page, Live Signal tracking, and personalized Navigation Bar. Review past actions with View History and stay ahead with Notifications and AI Chatbot assistance.

LLM AI ChatBot

The AI Chatbot function, which is an innovative feature proposed and designed by the team, includes the use of artificial intelligence to communicate with the investors, and help answer the users’. queries or questions in natural language, by applying the Large Language Model (LLM).

Users can easily access the bot with a simple click and quickly ask any questions related to their investments or the use of the mobile application. The answers will be ready within a few seconds. The AI chatbot is highly capable of understanding the questions posed by users and responding appropriately.

If option one is chosen, the bot will ask users to enter the specific feature they wish to learn about, such as how to find the latest price of Apple Inc.

After the user inputs their query, the bot will reply with guidance on how to find information about Apple Inc. in our APP using the navigation bar and search box.

If option two is chosen, the bot will ask users to enter the financial term they wish to understand, like what BID value means. The bot will then provide an explanation of the term.

If option three is chosen, the bot will ask users to specify which company’s news they are interested in, such as wanting to know the latest news about JP Morgan. The bot will respond with the latest news about JP Morgan and its analysis of the news.

We would like to first give our warmest thanks to our company mentor, Mr. John Gallagher, Chief Executive Officer of WealthCX, who made this project opportunity possible. He set the framework and guidelines for the project, and he got us in contact with relevant personnel such as the Hawkeye Analytics team. The assistance he provided allowed us to be familiar with the project and software that are required in the project.

 

We would next like to thank our mentor in SUTD, Dr. Lynette Cheah, Associate Professor of Engineering Systems and Design. She constantly checked in on our progress of the project in school and gave suggestions to ensure we were on the right track. The guidance she provided allowed us to make progress in the project.

 

We would also like to thank Mr. Gauderic Tan, Project Manager in WealthCX. He also constantly looked up on our progress and provided assistance for us when we encountered questions or issues in the project. He also helped us communicate these issues to the relevant personnel. The help he provided allowed us to have the tools needed to work on the project.

 

We would additionally like to thank the Hawkeye Analytics team for providing us with a tutorial on how their application programming interface (API) worked. The tutorial they gave allowed us to be familiar with the software.

Last but not least, we would like to thank Mr. Patrick Tay, Writing Specialist at Centre for Writing and Rhetoric in SUTD. He reviewed our works and presentations and gave us suggestions for improvement. His advice allowed us to better refine our work and produce better quality work.
