TROLLI-MATE

Shelve Smart, Reach Easy

Library personnel encounter significant challenges during their daily tasks, particularly when shelving books using library trolleys. These tasks involve repetitive and strenuous movements, such as constant bending and crouching to access lower shelves, and pushing heavily loaded trolleys filled with books. These activities contribute to physical strain and pose a heightened risk of injuries, particularly for staff with limited mobility or strength.

Introducing TROLLI-MATE

To address these challenges, our project aims to design an ergonomic product tailored for public libraries in Singapore, operated by the National Library Board (NLB). The primary objective is to simplify book transportation within the library while minimising physical strain on staff. Our innovative solution features a smart trolley equipped with power-assisted mobility through motorised wheels, eliminating the need for strenuous pushing of loaded trolleys. Additionally, it includes a mechanism to elevate books from lower shelves to a comfortable waist-level height, thereby reducing the need for bending and crouching by staff. Furthermore, the trolley incorporates a detachable function that enables it to connect and disconnect from other trolleys seamlessly, eliminating the limitations associated with manoeuvring bulky trolleys in confined spaces. This multifunctional design enhances efficiency and ergonomics for library personnel, promoting a safer and more comfortable working environment.
